Our Hollywood story kicks off when Mystic Pizza caught the eye of notorious screenwriter, Amy Jones. Jones was summering in the area when her eye caught the drawing atmosphere of Mystic Pizza. The romantic comedy-drama portrays the coming age of three waitress’ working in a pizza parlor; learning the in’s and out’s of love, heartbreak and life. The movie was filmed in Mystic and neighboring towns. “Mystic Pizza” was released in 1988 and carried an effortless charm along with it; even critics such as Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs up!
The little pizza parlor in Mystic could hardly keep up with the demand. Customers lined sidewalks; eagerly waiting to taste “A Slice of Heaven”. Menu’s and matchbooks disappeared in rapid quantities; cars on Main St. avoided pizza fans snapping photos.
