Our Story

Mystic Pizza II opened in 1991 as the Spanos/Zelepos family’s answer to overwhelming demand after the Mystic Pizza film turned the original restaurant into a global destination.
Rather than becoming a disconnected franchise, this location was designed as a true extension of the family legacy—led by Harry Spanos, nephew of founder Steve Zelepos—to keep the recipes, standards, and hospitality consistent.

Our Vision

To keep the Mystic Pizza tradition authentic and accessible—delivering the same “secret recipe” heritage (especially the signature sauce and cheese blend) in a relaxed, family-friendly setting with a full menu beyond pizza.

The Beginning

Steve Zelepos founded the original Mystic Pizza as a neighborhood pizzeria built on family recipes and community roots.

The Movie Moment

The release of Mystic Pizza transformed the original location into a cultural landmark—and demand quickly outgrew what downtown Mystic could physically handle.

Mystic Pizza II Opens

Mystic Pizza II launched in North Stonington as a strategic expansion to serve guests who wanted the Mystic Pizza experience with less congestion—while staying true to the family lineage under Harry Spanos.
